Support Your Local Author!
Or: A cool thing happened at Barnes and Noble today
So I went to Barnes and Noble today to pick up Don Winslow’s latest book (fun fact: Anybody who knows me knows that I’m absolutely a huge Don Winslow fan). While browsing, I met an author who was advertising and signing her book there; her name is Cheyenne Jenvey and her book is called, Dragonflies and Demons. Now full disclosure, I’m generally not the audience for her book but on a whim I decided to pick up her book and chat with her.
She was a very kind, very lovely person and she signed my copy. We got to talking and I told her that I was also an author. She told me about the struggles of getting her book published and the drama that came with it. In that conversation, I could totally relate. It was a great convo for the ten minutes that it lasted, and I hope she does well.
I guess that the point that i’m trying to make here is to support your local author. Support can come from a lot of different ways. While buying a book is a wonderful thing, I don’t think it’s mandatory (though I don’t think any author will tell you to go screw yourself for buying their book lol) to support them that way. Words of encouragement, a like or even a follow on social media can go a long, long way. Today’s conversation with Cheyenne reminded me of that and i’m trying to be better about that going forward.
So, to my fellow authors, keep on keeping on. If writing is your passion, don’t lose it; keep a tight hold onto it. Cheyenne showed me that there is light at the end of the tunnel.
I want to give a special shout out to my best friend and fellow author, Victor James. Go check out his substack and his other stuff that’s out there. He’s an amazing writer! The Fiasco of Adventures is a darkly funny, poignant book to read and I think you’ll enjoy it.
To all my other fellow authors on here on Substack, know that i’m rooting for you and i’m clicking your like buttons when I can.
Now, as usual, onto my shameless plugging of my wares:
Check out my site, The Anelliverse!
On there, you can find links to my works that i’ve published so far such as my crime novel, “Mistakes Were Made,” or my first foray into writing which was, “The Chronicles of the Night Revenger” series (which i’m honestly thinking of revisiting and following up on. I miss my main character, Ernie Bradley something serious. Let’s just say I’ve got an idea or two cooking for him). And of course, my latest work, which is a superhero novella and incidentally, also my first audiobook, “Sentinel Remarkable and his Deadly 80s Playlist.” The link is below!
That’s enough of my jaw jacking for now. Ya’ll take care, be safe and keep making it happen!
Later, Anelliverse! Things are picking up, not slowing down…
