Why I write
Obligatory character development post
We all have our reasons for writing and becoming authors or creators. I’d like to think that the vast majority of us write is because we enjoy the act and art of writing. For some, its deeper, maybe therapeutic. For others, it might be a throw-away hobby.
For me though, While yes, I absolutely enjoy writing (If I could get a job being a writer and make enough money to pay the rent and write until I die of a heart attack at my laptop, I totally would), I’ve found that writing has an added, unexpected benefit of centering me.
Before, I got back into writing in a less dilettante fashion and made the decision to write more, I found that I was very scatterbrained and prone to making very dumb decisions and saying dumb things. Don’t get me wrong, I still say and do dumb things, but now that I write, I seem to do it less lol.
For some reason, thinking about that next line of dialogue, trying to figure out how to market and advertise my stories, dreaming of scenarios and potential new adventures, seems to focus me throughout the day. If I had to guess a reason why, it’s probably because it gives me something to shoot for, strive for, something to look forward to.
I find that very comforting right now because i’m going through some things. Knowing that I still have a lot of stories to tell gives me a comfort that I can’t quite describe. I know it’s weird but that’s how it is with me. You guys let me know what writing does for you!
